New Show coming up!

Well I got so excited today because there was a rehearsal for our next Party! This time, I got to hear a whole new set of actors read a funny heartwarming show today. The title of this one is called “Over the River Through the Woods”, based on the old thanksgiving song about going to visit Grandmother.

It was great to meet the new actors: Ardyce DeBurle, Gene Saine, Jacob Brayton and Margaret Lackey. Two of the actors were missing this week: Ben DeBurle and Alex Elfner, but they will be there next week for the second rehearsal.

I hope to see a lot of people for this show at the OLD COURTHOUSE THEATRE 49 Spring Street NW in Concord, North Carolina on Sunday November 14th at 4:00 pm.

And remember all of these parties are FREE!!!

Another Successful Party!

Well, everyone’s gone home and we’ve cleaned up from hosting our guests. We hosted 61 guests….lots of familiar faces, and new ones too!!! I was excited to see everyone having a glorious time. I must admit, when I heard the title of “Dividing the Estate” I though… Oh my, this is going to be depressing. It was quite the opposite. Granted, there were moments I could’ve shed a tear. Every time I started to sniffle, I heard something funny and the frown turned upside down.

I’ll tell you a secret……we’re having another party in November!!!!

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Theatre

Last night was the first reading rehearsal with the “Dividing the Estate” players. I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. Horton Foote did an incredible job of taking something that’s stressful and found humor in it. As far as sofas are concerned, I’ve been very lucky. I haven’t moved between family members or even sold to new ones. I’ve lived with Old Courthouse Theatre for 35 years, and hope to be here for many more to come.

Remember… the party is Sunday, September 12th at 4:00pm. We hope to see you there!!!

First Read through Down!

Well, we have had our first read through of Dividing the Estate and we laughed a lot! Half of the cast were not present due to conflicts but we will catch them up later. It was interesting to see how many voices 5 people could do to fill in for a cast of 13!

See the following views of Jon Bowlby, Tammi Shumate, Bryan Shumate, Katie Warlick and Jonathan M Ewart during rehearsal!

Guess Who’s Coming to the Reading?

I told you about our first party right? Just in case I didn’t our first “party” is on September 12th and the “theme” is Dividing the Estate. I’m really excited about the folks coming. The RSVPers are:

  • Pauline – Katie Warlick
  • Stella Gordon – Becky Porter
  • Lucille – Frances Quinn
  • Lewis Gordon – John Bowlby
  • Son – Jonathan Ewart
  • Mildred – Natasha Wall
  • Doug – John Price
  • Cathleen – Lenise Spann-Bell
  • Sissie – Kitty Beard
  • Emily – Karla Eaves
  • Mary Jo – Tammi Shumate
  • Bob – Bryan Shumate
  • Irene Ratliff – Melissa Bowden

Remember – the party starts promptly at 4:00pm!!!

We’re Having a Party

Guess what! We’re having a party….reading party that is. In fact, we’re having 3 parties!!!

Plan to come over on:

  • September 12th
  • November 14th
  • January 23rd

My address is:

Black Box Theatre – OCT

49 Spring St., SW

Concord, NC 28025

All of our parties start promptly at 4:00pm.

I’d hate for you to stand during the party, so come over a few minutes early. Some of our chairs are being re-upholstered and they may not arrive in time for the party.

Another Reading, Another Show

Cole Porter wrote about new theatre shows opening in Kiss Me Kate, and now we’re doing the same with our SECOND SEASON of the Living Room Reading Series!!! Last year, we didn’t know what to expect….maybe that’s why we made it through the season. We faced inclement weather, space issues, scheduling conflicts, and many others, but instead of losing interest we gained it!!! Fans braved the weather, walked from one location to another, and even patiently waited for a “late” reading. Each time, we saw both returning guests and new ones!!! We must be doing something right. Old Courthouse Theatre recognized our success by naming Divorce Southern Style from last season to their 35th season lineup.

With success come expectations. Can we do it? Well, I’ve heard some intriguing conversations about it. When I hear words like “world premier”, it makes me want my end pillows to go to the dry cleaners.

So what have I heard? Horton Foote’s Dividing the Estate was the first one I heard about. Others tossed around were Over the River and Through the Woods and Mrs. Murphy’s Porch. I’ll admit, a blanket covered me so I didn’t hear everything. I’ll see what I can find out and let you know!!!
